Bring Your Own Device Classroom Seminar

The seminar attracted many principals and teachers to attend.

Ms. Wai Ching Han, Principal of Hong Kong and Macau Lutheran Church Primary School gave a welcome speech.

The "Bring Your Own Device Classroom Seminar", organized by Smart Education Charitable Foundation on 1 March, 2013 at Hong Kong and Macau Lutheran Church Primary School, was a great success.

The seminar attracted many principals and teachers to attend. They all showed great interest in the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) technology and student-centered pedagogies.

We invited three guest speakers, including Mr. Ching Chi Cheung - Awardee of Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence, Mr. Richard Pang - Smart Education E-learning Consultant and Director of EDU Computer Technology Limited and Ms. Kelsey Zhang - Senior Editor from Smart Education to demonstrate the BYOD technology and teaching methods.

How to apply the technology to classroom?

BYOD enables students to enjoy interactive learning in classrooms through their own tablets. Mr. Ching demonstrated how teachers could teach Maths using tablets with interactive software and games. For example, he showed us how to use the AugmentedReality software to allow students to have a better understanding of 3-D models. Paricipants were all very impressed.

How to use e-books in teaching?

Using e-books from MySmartReaders, Ms. Kelsey Zhang demonstrated how to conduct an interactiveEnglish lesson. She also shared with teachers the benefits of using e-learning resources to improve teaching and learning effectiveness.

Last but not least, Mr. Richard Pang explained to teachers the core technology of BYOD - Displaynote. This software enables teachers to control students' tablets during lessons, which helps in the areas of class management and collaborative learning activities.

The seminar was a huge success. We hope that it had given teachers a better understanding on how schools could effectively implement digital classrooms in the 21st century.
